Harrison Bay State Park Lifeguard Positions

Lifeguard 1 position

State Position Description

Job Overview:

Summary: Under general supervision, performs water safety duties of average difficulty, and performs related duties as required.

Distinguishing Features: This is the entry level class in the Lifeguard sub series. An employee in this class is responsible for providing water safety services to swimmers at state parks. This class differs from Lifeguard 2 in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for supervisory duties.


 Work Activities: 1. Patrols swimming areas to watch for swimmers in danger and provide rescue efforts as needed.

2. Administers CPR and may give swimming instructions.

3. Inspects facilities to insure cleanliness and inventory needs are met.

4. Assists in conducting and officiating at swimming meets.

5. Maintains order and administers disciplinary actions as needed.

Specific Site Requirements

Harrison Bay Lifeguard 1 Overview:

  • Weekly Safety and skills Training/Practices
  • Water quality tests 
  • Clean and maintain pool deck
  • Organize and clean Lifeguard Shack & pump rooms
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Responsible and accountable for general maintenance, cleanup duties and safety checks associated with the pool area
  • Required to participate in boat shed rental duties, ie: loading and unloading canoes and kayaks from racks. 

About qualification and Application process

To apply for this position you must submit the following documents to the Harrison Bay State Park office during normal business hours:

  • General State Employment Application
  • Copy of Valid Drivers License
  • Copy of Social Security Card
  • Copy of Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Card
  • Copy of Red Cross CPR certification Card

 

To qualify for this position you must have or obtain a valid CPR and Lifeguard certification through the American Red Cross. 

 

Lifeguard and CPR certification training is offered locally by the YMCA, UTC Aquatic center. Harrison Bay State park will also facilitate training if you do not apply with a current certification. Applicants who are already certified will receive preference.

 

Lifeguard 2 position (Head Lifeguard)

State Position Description

Job Overview:

Summary: Under general supervision, performs water safety duties of considerable difficulty; and performs related duties as required.

Distinguishing Features: This is the supervisory level class in the Lifeguard sub-series. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising and providing water safety services to swimmers at state parks. This class differs from Lifeguard 1 in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for providing water safety services to swimmers.


 Work Activities: 1. Supervises and patrols swimming areas to watch for swimmers in danger and provide rescue efforts as needed.

2. Administers CPR and first aid treatment and may give swimming instructions.

3. Supervises and inspects facilities to insure cleanliness and inventory needs are met.

4. Supervises and assists in conducting and officiating at swimming meets.

5. Maintains order and administers disciplinary actions as needed.

6. Assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates the work of Lifeguard 1’s.

7. Maintains and writes records and reports.

  • Supervises and Communicates with Lifeguard 1’s 
  • Attempts to resolve customer service issues at the pool operation.
  • Sets daily lifeguard rotation and establishes schedules.
