75th anniversary

75th anniversary

On June 16, 2013, Harrison Bay State Park celebrated its 75th anniversary as a state park with a historical exhibit, a canoe trip to the area where the old town of Harrison is now submerged, and a nature walk to see several structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC). But the highlight of the day was having one of the original members of the CCC unit which actually helped build Harrison Bay State Park as the guest of honor.  Mr. Fred Mills Sr. attended the event with many family members and
was able to share a fascinating story about his years in the CCC prior to serving in the Army’s 353rd Combat Engineer Battalion in the South Pacific during WWII.
